Lost-wax casting sometimes called by the French name of cire perdue (from the Latin cera perduta) is the process by which a bronze or brass is cast from an artist’s sculpture; in industrial uses, the modern process is called investment casting.
A casting technique in which a carved wax model is placed in a container that is then filled with plaster. After the plaster hardens, the container is fired to melt the wax. The result is a plaster mold suitable for casting metal or plastic.
